The Finnish Society of Medical Genetics was founded in 1976. The society has approximately 200 active members. In addition to these, the society has both Finnish and international honorary members. The members consist of clinicians, geneticists, genetics nurses, and under- and postgraduate students in these fields.
The purpose of the society is to promote and develop medical genetics in Finland and to function as a forum for the people interested in this field. For this purpose, the society organizes meetings and training sessions and creates and maintains connections with Finnish and international organizations.
